An Original...and a Replica

As a final piece to add the collection of miniatures that I gave to my cousin [see here], I have completed a replica of her wedding cake.  It felt good to make a cake again!

The miniature replica stands four (4) centimeters in height.

An Unusual Project

Throughout the course of the summer, I was primarily focused on the rather lengthy project of creating sculptures to fill an entire miniature display shelf to give to my newly-married cousin (on the occasion of her bridal shower in August). Each miniature has a specific meaning or symbolism related to the bride.  From start to finish, it took approximately 20 tedious hours to complete this shelf.  All in all, I really enjoyed deviating from my normal routine to complete this unusual type of work!

Now that I'm back to school and also balancing a part time job, my time to make miniatures has been very limited.  However, I'm slowly attempting to "fix that problem" in as much as I can, and I hope to be posting more when time permits.

Dabbling with Cakes Again

Realizing that I hadn't made a cake in such a long while (or really anything else), I sat down one day and decided to have a little fun.  This little rose cake was the result!  I love the shade of plum, and I thought I would top this cake off with a few plum-colored roses.

Also, near the bottom of this post, I added two pictures of the last gingerbread houses that I made for the 2012 series.

Back to Prep Boards

Some time ago, I was commissioned to make a "cake pop prep board."  Well, until then, I had never heard of a cake pop before... if you haven't either (and if you're as curious as I was about cake pops), I explain the steps involved to make real cake pops in the captions below the pictures.  Note, however, that I have never made cake pops in real life, so my explanations might be faulty! ;)  It definitely turned out to make a unique prep board!

The prep board from a side angle!

Bake a cake and crumble the pieces using your hands.

Mix the crumbled cake bits with icing.  Roll into balls.
Insert (pop/sucker) sticks into cake balls.  Next, dip your pops into a bowl of frosting.
Leave to dry.  Drop a few purple speckles on top, if you want!
And you're done!

Red & Orange Blubbery Jello

At long last, I had the opportunity to create my very first mini jello "cakes"...and it was actually quite fun!

So how about some blubbery jello as a treat?  We have plenty for you to enjoy!
Orange and strawberry/cherry jello. Ooooh!

Carrots and... More Cakes

I took a small detour one day and decided to try a few carrots.  I particularly love the green and orange combination--it makes for a wonderfully bright, scrumptiously crunchy, and healthy springtime snack!

And of course I have some new cakes to share!  These charlotte cakes are a "new thing" for me, and I really have fun putting my imagination to work while creating them.  So here's to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Nutty Cherry Cake

Cherries....mmm!  What can I say?  They're one of the reasons I look forward to summer so much.

To satisfy my cravings, I decided to make a cake...another cake.  For reasons unknown to me, I never seem to tire of making cakes!

For this cake, I decided to add some freshly chopped nuts along the side, a little bit of whipped cream on top, and a few stunning cherries to finish it off with a little bit of color.

End of the Winter Season

As we approach the end of the winter season, I'd like to finish things off with a little winter-themed cake. :) The design of this soft blue snowflake cake was inspired by an actual cake that my cousin, Maggie, designed and created. Mmm I can taste it right now!

Two layers of chocolate cake and two layers of mint cake--a very tasty combination!

Delicate snowflakes decorate the sides as well as the top of the cake. Tiny marshmallows line the rim along the base.

Time to have a slice!

Back at Last!

Life has been quite an unforgettable adventure these past few months--two eye surgeries and two craft shows... and my sweet sixteenth birthday. :) The complications with my eye have been resolved, and I am so relieved that everything is completed and done!

Today I went back to making miniatures, and it was so refreshing. In addition to school and other activities that are keeping me endlessly busy, I have found a lack of inspiration or motivation to make miniature creations. But I am hopeful that I can reverse that soon and get back in the swing of things. Now that my craft shows for this year are finished, maybe I can relax a little more.

So I am back at last! And I've really missed blogging. :)

A Little More Sweetness

I tried making a few (square) bundt cakes for the first time, and I was excited with the result. I've also been working on the popular round bundt cakes, which I will share in the future.

Time has not been on my side lately! I haven't had much time (or motivation) to make miniatures in between everything else that's going on in my life right now. Just can't wait for everything to get back to normal again.

While I try to find my lost motivation, here is a peppermint/chocolate cake and a lemon cake to sweeten your day. :)

A Few Purchases

Well I finally convinced myself to make a few purchases recently! I bought several items, but I'll only be highlighting one of my bakery display cases and glass cake stands in this post (a few other items are on back-order unfortunately). It has been so much fun playing around with my new little accesories!

You'll also find some pictures below of the first attempts at making my new cake box design. It's still in the testing stage, but I thought I mind as well share anyway!
