A Touch of Ginger

Belated Merry Christmas and an early Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best in the coming year.

Unfortunately, I have not been very prolific in miniature-making lately. Things have remained steadily busy around here, and it's difficult to find an extended period of time to concentrate on sculpting. However, I have managed to make some little goodies here and there, even though it's not much. :)

I am looking forward to the New Year, and all the mini surprises it may bring! I am very appreciative of all of my followers and those who read my blog, and I'm very glad to have the opportunity to share my work with you!

Back at Last!

Life has been quite an unforgettable adventure these past few months--two eye surgeries and two craft shows... and my sweet sixteenth birthday. :) The complications with my eye have been resolved, and I am so relieved that everything is completed and done!

Today I went back to making miniatures, and it was so refreshing. In addition to school and other activities that are keeping me endlessly busy, I have found a lack of inspiration or motivation to make miniature creations. But I am hopeful that I can reverse that soon and get back in the swing of things. Now that my craft shows for this year are finished, maybe I can relax a little more.

So I am back at last! And I've really missed blogging. :)

Roses from the Garden

Every rose comes with thorns--except miniature ones! These delicate 1:12 scale roses are a perfect addition to any miniature romantic or "chic" scene. The pink and yellow shades are fairly neutral and complement most colors very nicely.

Unfortunately, I will be taking another break from blogger as I head in for another eye surgery on Monday. Hopefully my recovery will go by quickly so that I can get back to miniature-making and blogging again soon. Thanks for following. :)

A Little More Sweetness

I tried making a few (square) bundt cakes for the first time, and I was excited with the result. I've also been working on the popular round bundt cakes, which I will share in the future.

Time has not been on my side lately! I haven't had much time (or motivation) to make miniatures in between everything else that's going on in my life right now. Just can't wait for everything to get back to normal again.

While I try to find my lost motivation, here is a peppermint/chocolate cake and a lemon cake to sweeten your day. :)

Garden Tomatoes

Some time ago, I began experimenting on tomatoes. The process was fun, but being the perfectionist that I am, it was time consuming. I am not a huge tomato fan in "real life," maybe a slice or two on my sandwich. But I'll admit that tomatoes are another food that I like creating in miniature.

I also created a pair of tomato earrings, which I coated with a thin layer of glaze. The loose 1:12 scale tomatoes (shown in the first picture below) aren't glazed, but I can't decide if I should apply glaze or not. What do you think? I need help deciding if glaze is a little too much for little tomatoes or not. :)

Last Taste of Summer

Summer is drawing to a close, and it will be autumn before you know it! But that doesn't mean we can't have our last cookout of the summer with some hotdogs!

My favorite part about making miniature hotdogs is adding the toppings of ketchup, mustard, relish, and chopped onions. It really brings the hotdogs to life with the little bits of color! You have a variety of hotdogs to choose from, so help yourself! ;)

A Few Purchases

Well I finally convinced myself to make a few purchases recently! I bought several items, but I'll only be highlighting one of my bakery display cases and glass cake stands in this post (a few other items are on back-order unfortunately). It has been so much fun playing around with my new little accesories!

You'll also find some pictures below of the first attempts at making my new cake box design. It's still in the testing stage, but I thought I mind as well share anyway!

A Touch of Sugar

Food jewelry is always a big hit at craft shows, so I always try to have a good supply of it for sales. I have my first show of the year in October, and it always takes a long time to stock up for a considerably large show like this. It hasn't even been a year since my last show, but I'm still so excited to get back out there again!

Here are two of the many, many pairs of earrings that I've been making recently.

Ice cream cones are always very popular. They're one of my favorites too. :)

Cotton Candy

There's just something so good about the way cotton candy just melts in your mouth! Some people hate it, but some people love it. And let's face it: anything looks terribly cute in miniature!

Here are a few generous servings of fluffly pink cotton candy. I feel like I should be at an amusement park or a carnival because I'm surrounded by such tasty, sugary fluffiness.

It was extremely difficult to get these photo shots of the cotton candy... I believe our camera is close to death. The last thing I need right now is for that camera to die on me completely.

What Have We Here?

I've been experimenting with making miniature boxes lately... and the results actually haven't been too bad! There are several different designs that I have created, but I'll save those for another time. Here is a box that I filled with a few donuts. This box isn't intended to store donuts, but I just wanted to take a few pictures with something inside of the box.

Something Old

A little while ago, I was sorting through various boxes which contain my miniatures, and I came across this wedding cake that has never been published on my blog. I thought it was worth sharing, since I'm still working on getting back to mini-making after surgery.

This wedding cake has four layers with pink and red roses cascading down the side. There are also some green fondant leaves to add an extra touch.

I've often mentioned how much I love making cakes. It's always a challenge creating new designs. My mind is always buzzing with new ideas, and I'm very anxious to start improving my wedding cakes!

It's the Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth of July!! This is one of my favorite times of the year, for sure! Independence Day might very well be my favorite holiday, for many reasons. There is so much to be grateful for, especially our troops!

Days before my surgery, I was able to very quickly make a few Fourth of July minis to share with you today. I just couldn't let this holiday pass without some patriotic miniatures! Hopefully next year I will have more Independence Day miniatures to share than I do today.

Once again, Happy Fourth of July! Please enjoy the cookies, lollipops, and cake!

Just Another Cake

The good news is that my eye surgery went very well! However, my eye isn't recovering as was hoped (and now there are some complications), so it seems that I might have to wait even longer to get back to making miniatures again. I don't really know--it's hard to say what will happen. Hopefully things will get better soon! In the meantime, we'll see how patient I am while I wait until my vision gets better!

Here's just another cake that I made (before surgery of course). It has three layers of cake, two chocolate and one vanilla. It is coated with a generous amount of white, creamy icing. As a bonus, it is topped with chocolate shreds. I could really go for a slice of this right about now.

Classic Hamburger & Fries

Summer is just around the corner! We all know that summer is full of cookouts. In keeping with the season, I have made some delicious hamburgers grilled to perfection, along with a serving of french fries and ketchup. Who's hungry? I also made hamburger earrings that dangle very nicely.

Tomorrow is my eye surgery. Unfortunately I will have to take some time off from making miniatures while I recover, but I will return and share more minis as soon as I am able. Until next time!

Fudge!

Fudge is another one of my several addictions! It's just so good and I love how it melts in your mouth. For this post, I have prepared half a dozen tiny pieces of fudge to share with you. A touch of white chocolate and peanut butter adds that delicious zang to the rich and fudgy chocolate layers.

Simple Banana Tart

Recently I tried making a simple banana chocolate tart.. not a bad result? Sometime soon I will have to experiment further with tart making. If only I were a good baker, then maybe I could make some of my miniature sweets in real life!

(Early) Happy Memorial Day! I'd like to extend a special thank you to our troops, especially those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We appreciate all that you do.

Red Velvet Cake

If you know me at all, then you know that I love making mini cakes! I will always be addicted to making cakes. Today I've decided to share my first attempt at a simple red velvet cake. As you can see, there are two small roses nestled among the thick white icing. Please enjoy!

Fresh from the Oven

Bread! It seems like I can never get enough of it. There are so many different kinds, each tasty in its own way. It's always a special treat to have the "good stuff."

I've always enjoyed testing various types of bread in miniature. One day I decided to just have some fun, so I spent two afternoons making bread. Here is my newest collection of french bread, baguettes, sourdough, and more.
