A Special Treat

Although I have been absent from my blog for a week, I am back again with good news! My niece, Catherine Olivia, was born on February 20th at 10:52am. We're all so excited to meet her. I have an extremely busy week ahead, so excuse me if I become a little inactive for just a short while.

Now that I have finally completed the seemingly endless list of custom orders, I am enjoying the freedom of making whatever I please! We'll see how long this lasts. :) Anyway, here is my latest project: a collection of special treats. I'm still revising it here and there, but I thought I'd share it anyway. I'm anxious to make so many new surprises!

Here we have various doughnuts, a cake, cinnamon rolls, and three unique cupcakes. I placed everything on a table just for fun. I hope you can tolerate pink because there happens to be quite a bit of it on the table. :) All of the doilies measure 1 inch in diameter.

Before I forget, I'd like to say a special thank you to everyone for your thoughtful congratulations on reaching 100 followers. I rarely reply to any comments, but be assured that I read every single one of them! Mini hugs.

If only I could eat these!

A selection of doughnuts: chocolate, vanilla, striped cream, maple, and pink. Mmm! Two of the cupcakes can also be seen in this picture.

Chocolate and pink match very nicely.

Chocolate swirls and chocolate roses..

What a Surprise!

I couldn't believe my eyes today when I discovered that I had reached 100 followers! What a milestone this is. You are all so wonderful, and thank you so much for being a part of my blog. I truly mean this. Your sweet comments and messages are always guaranteed to put a smile on my face and brighten up my day.

Once again, thank you! I can't wait to share upcoming surprises.

I have also been pondering a giveaway in celebration of reaching 100 followers....

Feeling Fishy

This past week was extremely counterproductive! I caught the flu (and a bit of a fever), and so I was sentenced to rest on the couch for several days. Well I'm finally getting better and hopefully I'll get back to normal soon. Right now it's frustrating because I'm behind on everything.

Just before I started "feeling fishy," I happened to make my very first miniature fish. As much as I despise the smell and taste of fish, I honestly enjoyed making these raw ones.

Nocturnal Owl

I was recently comissioned to make this rather cute miniature owl. His eyes are my favorite part!

I've only made one owl before, and that was many years ago. I was quite pleased with the result of my new technique, and I hope to try to make others-- sometime.

There are so many different types of owls! It was difficult picking just one type and imitating it.

On a random note, I have been told that my last name (Aul) means "owl" in German..

Almond Cake

A few weeks ago, I taught my friend how to make an almond cake (her favorite). We had a very fun experience while creating this cute cake together!

Dozens of carefully sliced almonds are surrounded by a line of luscious red cherries on the top of the cake. Three layers of moist and rich cake batter make a wonderful addition to the cherry-almond flavor. Simple, sugary icing adds the final touch of perfection to this treat.

Happy Superbowl Sunday! Can't wait for the game tonight.

Mmm, I could go for some real almond cake right about now.

This was my friend's very first try at texturing a cake. Just look at the excellent texture on this slice!

Little Candies

Over the weekend I finished an order which included three gingerbread house prep boards. I have decided to share a few pictures of them even though they may be a little out of season. Why not? Some of you might have already seen it before.

Without a doubt I spent the most time making the candies for the jars. The rainbow dots and gumdrops were most tedious to create!! I don't even want to think of how much time I spent making the candies. In the end it always looks colorful though.

Last Saturday night I went square dancing. It was my first time, and it will certainly not be my last! I just love dancing.

Yesterday I went to my eye doctor for my annual check up (my left eye is weak). Unfortunately there was bad news.. the doctor told me that I will be needing a third eye surgery. I wouldn't have ever guessed! Now I'm just dreading it.

After talking about it for a while, we decided that early June would probably be the best time for surgery. But that means I can't go swimming for a while!

Let's just hope that I will recover quickly so that I can have a productive summer and get back to making more miniatures. :) Sounds easy.... right??
